Diversity in Gender and Sexuality

In April 2020, " Policies and Guidelines at HU for Respecting Gender and Sexual Diversity: for LGBT+ Students" was enforced in HU, and was updated in April 2023 as “ Policies and Guidelines at HU for Respecting Gender and Sexual Diversity: To be Inclusive of LGBT+ Students, Faculty and Staff". ReCDI in corporation with other HU institutions such as the Accessibility Center, the Health Service Center, the Harassment Consultation Office, the Gender Equality Promotion Office, and the Vice President in charge of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, wrote the draft for these Policies and Guidelines.

ReCDI continues working to help create environment in HU and society in which every member regardless of their gender and sexuality can live with freedom and peace of mind.

Content: Ms. Sakura, a transgender activist and writer, spoke about gender, sexuality, sex, gender identity, and related topics, drawing on her own experiences and on familiar examples such as anime.

ReCDI in collaboration with HU LGBTs Student Club, Light, screened the film, Ginger & Honey Milk (2021), in our liberal arts class "Introduction to Diversity".

Dr. Yutaka Mano, who has worked as an openly gay teacher at a public junior high school, and has been engaged in research and education on the theme of "how to teach sexual diversity in schools," spoke about schools today from the perspective of diversity in gender and sexuality.

Screening a Documentary Film on Sexual Diversity

As part of the liberal arts course "Introduction to Diversity," ReCDI screened When I Return to 'Zero' Gender - Nine Years of Sky and Nuts (2019, Musubi Productions) exclusively on HU campus. After the screening, we had a discussion with the main character, Konomi Kobayashi, as our guest.

ReCDI also hosted a closed discussion with Kobayashi inviting activists and researchers in Hiroshima. The participants were as follows:

Consulting for Local Government

ReCDI is providing consulting services to Aki Takata City in 2021 as it implements measures related to gender equality and sexual diversity.

Survey in HU

ReCDI conducted a survey on attitudes toward LGBT and other groups in May-June 2019 and January-February 2020, for first-year undergraduates (except for some, such as night course students) and all faculty and staff at HU.
